Sa Creu d’en Ribes, a chapel looking out to sea
On top of the Puig de sa Creu stands Sa Creu d’en Ribes, a small hermitage with views over Santa Eulària
Sa Creu d’en Ribes sits at the northern edge of the town of Santa Eulària des Riu. It is a small chapel from 1858 on top of the Puig d’en Ribes, a 221-metre hill. It takes some effort to get there and it is not easy to find, but from the top you get some of the best views of Santa Eulària.
To reach the access path, take the roundabout at the entrance to Santa Eulària, before the bridge over the river, and leave it to the left, with the Puig de Missa clearly visible on your right.
At the next roundabout, head back towards the centre of town and take the first street on the left. Keep going straight towards the hill: there you will see the sign marking the trail, and that is where you need to leave the car.
A path of faith
Although it is the route of a traditional local pilgrimage, the Sa Creu d’en Ribes trail is rocky and demanding. Wear suitable footwear: the climb zigzags through stony ground, with few stretches where you can rest your legs. A water bottle will come in handy.
Incredible scenery
At the top is the chapel, well preserved. What stands out are the mounds of stones with small crosses stuck in them as a tribute. Inside it is tiny, but it has two rooms: an oratory and a small sacristy.
Outside, a surprising view of the whole Santa Eulària coastline awaits you, making the climb up to Sa Creu d’en Ribes well worth the effort.
