Beaches and Coves of San Antonio
The beaches of Sant Antoni de Portmany, or San Antonio, line the west of the island, about fifteen kilometres from Ibiza Town. The municipality covers some one hundred and twenty-seven square kilometres, and its port sits at the head of the bay.
Sant Antoni has two very different kinds of beach: the ones favoured by residents and occasional visitors, and the more touristy ones, with a mostly British and fairly young crowd. The area known as the West End of Sant Antoni has very lively nights, when the partying easily gets out of hand. If that scene isn’t for you, or you’re travelling with children, it’s best to stay away late at night.
The beaches of San Antonio include some of the best beaches and coves in Ibiza.
The atmosphere on the beaches
The beaches locals prefer are mainly Cala Gració Beach, Cala Gracioneta and Cala Salada Beach: small, well-equipped coves away from the hotel complexes, ideal for swimming and for families.
At the other end of the scale are Es Pouet Beach, s’Arenal Beach and, to a lesser extent, Es Caló des Moro Beach.
With a hire car you can also explore other corners of the island.

Beaches of San Antonio
These are the main beaches of San Antonio, some of them truly spectacular.
S’Arenal Beach lies next to the port and carries on from the town’s seafront promenade. By day it’s a place to swim, and as evening falls it turns into a beach with music and plenty of nightlife.
Es Pouet Beach extends the bay of San Antonio, very close to the town centre. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, in a very touristy area with several shops nearby.
If there is one cove known all over the world for its music and sunset parties, it’s Caló des Moro. By day the crowd is mostly British; as evening falls, people gather by the sea to watch the sunset.
Cala Salada is a secluded spot in a setting as natural as it is spectacular, and it’s one of the favourite places to see in Ibiza.
Cala Gració is one of the favourite coves of people who live in San Antonio. Although it’s a good walk from the centre, it’s very quiet, well sheltered and perfect for going with children.
Cala Gracioneta is a small replica of Cala Gració; in fact, the two are almost twins. The difference is that this one is usually less crowded.
