Whether you’re staying in town or have just got off at the bus station, you reach it by crossing the main promenade, with the stalls on one side and Sant Antoni’s famous Egg of Columbus on the other. You get down to the sand via the many wooden ramps spread along a walkway that runs parallel to the beach, so it’s a very accessible spot.

What you’ll find at S’Arenal
It’s surprisingly long for the bay it sits in: about 700 metres of beach that has been gradually reclaimed from the sea, up to 30 metres wide in many stretches. All the beach facilities are made of wood and, together with the grass that grows in some stretches, they give it a feel that is part seaside, part countryside.
It’s the beach where some locals see in the New Year. The sand is fine, from the bay itself, and because the water is very calm and the port is so close, the seabed slopes very gently: you can wade out almost on foot to around 100 metres from the shore.
What makes this area special is not so much the beach as the colourful atmosphere of the pubs and bars around it. In most of them you’ll be served in Spanish, but they’re mainly aimed at British visitors: you’ll find more typically English food and drinks than local cuisine.
There’s plenty of accommodation nearby, mostly hotels and holiday apartments, and lots of shops if you want to take home a souvenir of the island.
With the marina so close you’ll also find water activities, such as sailing and diving schools. That’s precisely the downside: you can tell the port is there and it lowers the quality of the water.
