Torre des Molar. The great cliff
Defying a rugged coastline, the Torre des Molar rises high above the sea
Next to the harbour of Sant Miquel stands the Torre des Molar, part of the island’s defence system. Getting there is a bit awkward: you go up a road that starts at the entrance to the harbour of Sant Miquel and climbs the mountain to its highest point. A cliff of about a hundred metres separates it from the sea.
History of the Torre des Molar
The tower is part of the defensive strategy for Ibiza’s coast. It was built in the 18th century, in 1763 to be exact, and although it was designed to hold artillery, it was never armed. Thanks to its strategic position and its stunning views, the Torre des Molar was used as a watchtower.
