Statue of Marià Villangómez

Mariá Villangomez. An illustrious Writer

In the shadow of St. Michael's Church we find the statue dedicated to Marià Villangómez

Marià Villangómez (1913-2002) was one of the most important writers of Ibizan literature. Son of a good family, he studied in Palma, Murcia, Barcelona and Valencia. Writer of verses and Proses, taught in Sant Miquel de Balansat from 1946 where he began a prolific literary work that led him to publish in numerous magazines and newspapers. In 1989 he received the Premi d’Honor de les Lletres Catalanes, not only for his works but also for his translations of important works in Catalan. There are few who think that the current Ibizan writers have been very influenced by their publications, especially in the portraits of landscapes and their people.
