Temporary exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum
The Ibiza Contemporary Art Museum, known as MACE, is in Dalt Vila, in the former Sala de Armas, a building designed by the engineer Simón Poulet in 1727.
It grew out of the Ibiza Art Biennial, first held in 1964, and the Town Council approved its statutes in 1969. Much of its collection is graphic work from the biennials, and it includes pieces by Barry Flanagan, Hans Hinterreiter, Erwin Broner, Will Faber, Erwin Bechtold and Eduard Micus, among others. Alongside the permanent collection, it also puts on temporary exhibitions.
It was closed for extension works between 2007 and 2012. During the works, archaeological remains from the 7th century BC came to light, and the museum now devotes a space to them. It reopened on 27 April 2012 with works by Miquel Barceló and Barry Flanagan.
