Right next to the salt flats stands the church of Sant Francesc, a place to watch the sunset
The parish church of Sant Francesc de Paula is the heart of Sant Francesc de s’Estany. It dates back to 1785 and the parish reform of Bishop Abad y Lasierra, and it was built at the wish of King Charles III to serve the workers of the salt flats: a small chapel for the salt workers, whose job was exhausting.
Incredible scenery
What stands out about this church is not its size, as it is one of the smallest and simplest on the island, but the way it blends into the unique setting of the salt flats. It is a small, long rectangular nave with whitewashed walls and a gabled roof, a doorway under a round arch and a small bell gable at the top of the façade.
At sunset, as the sun goes down over the salt flats, the church makes for striking views.
