Es Cubells is a secluded corner of the island, with a special charm and spectacular views.
The parish of Es Cubells belongs to the municipality of Sant Josep and is made up of the rural districts (vendes) of La Flota, Davall sa Serra, Cala d’Hort and es Cubells. The village itself has barely a couple of streets and a church that began life in the mid-19th century as an oratory of the Carmelite friar Francesc Palau.
The best thing about the area is, without a doubt, its landscape: the cliffs, cap Llentrisca and the stunning views of Puig des Savinar and Cala d’Hort, with es Vedrà and es Vedranell as the backdrop.
Es Cubells lies on the south and south-west coast of the island. The only way into the village used to be the road from Sant Josep; today you can also get there from the neighbouring residential estates. And since exclusivity and peace and quiet come at a price, even more so in Ibiza, its coastline has filled up with luxury villas that have given Es Cubells a different feel.

This is one of the most rugged coastlines on the whole island, and the terrain has created some very striking natural features. These spots were so inaccessible that there was no need to build fortified churches: the coast made it impossible for troops to land. With that protection, and surrounded by mountains, a small farming area grew up here, of no interest to invaders but generous to the farmers.
Close by, the torre des Savinar watched over the horizon, covering the whole coast and any ships arriving from the mainland. A truly impregnable stronghold.
