We like to take advantage of sunny weekends that spring holds for us to take a walk around the deeper Ibizas . A Sant Llorenç de Balàfia, better known as San Lorenzo, get one of these Sundays, in the morning, when the Sun begins to warm. The beauty of this time is not only the flowery field. Before the arrival of the heat and the tourists, people begin to wake up from the slumber, and its people, maintain that calm that both longs in the capitals. Life continues to be a perfect harmony and, as the priest gives mass, it is the only time that the rural core of great archaeological value by the presence of Arab towers, takes life.
How to get to San Lorenzo
Sant Llorenç de Balàfia is located in the heart of the deep Ibiza . Without outlet to the sea, others to beach tourism, it borders north with Sant Joan, Sant Miquel and Santa Gertrudis West and East Sant Carles and Santa Eulalia. From either of these destinations, it is possible to access to the Church, the kilometer zero of the population, although far, its urban core.
However, the access more easy is produces through the road that une Ibiza with Sant Joan, and that runs through the island from South to North. He first section from the output of Ibiza coincides with the road of Santa Eulalia, by what will have to take this road in them outside of the city. About eight kilometers away, we find the detour that leads to Sant Joan. From here the road leaves of be so friendly, and spent by some sections that force to reduce the speed. Passengers will be to thank, because the views to the fields cultivated with the background hills invite you to ride.
We leave aside the neighbour and quiet Santa Gertrudis and continue the tour almost up to Sant Joan. In a detour to the left we find the road that links this town with Sant Miquel. For the first time we read a sign indicating the proximity of San Lorenzo. The peace here is absolute. A straight stretch to reach our final destination from which we can see the slope on which the Church rests. The whole farm is on the right. So only turn to see centuries of history reduced to a few hundred meters.
I find in Sant Llorenç de Balàfia.
Bird’s eye view, San Lorenzo is a small hive of farmland. The Church marks a turning point in the landscape, where along with four houses, gives way to the mountain and to the pine forest of the Mediterranean. A picture that dominated the region since the end of the 18TH century in which construction began. Small, coquettish and encalada, striking his porch, typical place of meeting and procession, with a single gateway. The Bell Tower dominates a small, tiny cemetery. A final surprise awaits us to turn around the building. An adobe Tower pool, very typical of churches in the North of the island, reminds us of past times. San Lorenzo is one of the small corners of Ibiza where the party, on August 10, takes another direction.
