Sa Cova des Vi

One of them places more interesting from the point of view archaeological and historical of Ibiza should be it known as Sa Cova des Vi or cave of Ses Fontanelles. But the truth is a virtually unknown even by the locals themselves. In the absence of official version, or at least we have not found it, the wall was discovered by Henri Breuil in 1917. Gets its name from the cave (this time Yes) which is continuing the road, known by fishermen to find freshwater in its interior. For more information on its discovery you recommend visit the blog of Jose Rod.

Coming to Ses Fontanelles or sa Cova des Vi.

Get ready for a tortuous road and no signaling. The area of Ses Fontanelles is located to the North of Sant Antoni. The indications that will have to follow us lead to Cala salt, taking the road of Sant Antoni to Santa Agnes.

We will find a detour to the left that leads to the beach. Just before arriving at the Cove, which is already visible, there is a fork in the road, where we went to a stretch of dirt and dust, especially in summer. From here we begin to surround a Hill until you reach back to the sea. From this moment on we will see a Grove before us. We repeat that there is no signage, so in the middle of the Grove, you will find a small space to park. The views from here are wonderful, and a small very steep peninsula rises before us. Somewhat later we found another islet. The road ends facing this islet, behind the beach of Cala Saladeta.

Abandoning the car, continue on foot along a path in quite a bad state at the beginning, and treacherous as we get closer to the paintings. By the time don’t worry, because the paintings are in sight behind some bars installed by the authorities for.

The road continues leaving Sa Cova des Vi and closer to the cave. Take special care with the loose stone stair treads.

Find in Sa Cova des Vi

Because if you are an expert, you’ll find paintings which, according to the official sign, belong to the bronze age. As explained José Barral, the discovery in Sicily of a very similar to the one of the cave drawings suggest a Punic origin.

If you are not so experienced, you will see the closest thing to a few lines drawn on the wall and some stains that almost does not identify anything. If you belong to the latter, there will be at least enjoyed a good view from Sa Cova Des Vi
