Museum Puget Ibiza in the 20TH century

Museo Puget Ibiza

Born in the upper town (Dalt Vila) in 2007, thanks to the collaboration between the Ministry of culture and the municipality of Eivissa, and above all, for the donation of Narcís Puget Riquer to the State, the Puget Museum. Thanks to the generosity of the latter, we can have a broad vision of the different Ibizas who lived throughout the 20TH century.

Reaching the Puget Museum

The arrival at the Museum is produced through the streets of San Ciriaco. It occupies a privileged position in the tour of Dalt Vila to be pass place more used to reach the square of the Cathedral, the top of Ibiza.

But if the placement of the Museum Puget is a real luxury, not has comparison with the beauty of Can Coma, an old caserio perfectly reformed and whose date of construction is estimated between them centuries fifteen and sixteen. While the facade seems to have a point of modernity over, inside is without a doubt the least known and most beautiful images that can be found in Ibiza.

Twentieth-century paintings

After crossing the door discovered a patio inside on which hangs a balcony capable of tell thousand stories. On the ground floor we find the reception, where we asked if we could take pictures. We can provided that are not published, the images of the works, as it is important to clarify that this is a private collection and as such, subject to copyright. Also we can find a room for exhibitions temporary besides other facilities less relevant. The building has a basement to work within the Museum , and an upper floor, where the works are exhibited.

Up to this plant, we have to go outside and climb a few steps to the balcony. Living there had to be a real luxury for the richest families.

Already on the inside, found a curious lighting of tones cakes where is exposed the works of both authors by separate. In some rooms father and son, share the space.

We started seeing Narcís Puget Viñas collection. I’m not very fond of the painting, so when I visit an exhibition of this kind I usually take a walk without too many pretensions. However, the oil paintings that reflect the life of the time called me enough attention. They are very colorful paintings but what is fascinating is that it reminds moments that keep coming back in the current Ibiza .

Scenes from beaches and festivals seem to not understand the passage of time. Some manuscripts took it for completed work.
When we got to Narcís Puget Viñas, sensation changes. His work is still capturing moments of Ibizan life, but this time the pictures remind us of those photos in black and white that we our grandparents taught. Pictures of fields and churches, women dressed in time, but with an incredible explosion of color. A different way to see other times, no doubt.

Perhaps the Museum does not have sufficient time as that has been seen by many residents of the island, which I regret, because I loved it, and even they are my ancestors. Anyway, and not serve as an excuse, should recognize that the timetable of visit also greatly facilitates the work. Intended to make them a sketch, but they will have to settle for this.

Not open on Mondays. The rest of day of the year, in the morning from nine to one and a half. In the afternoon, five to eight summer and winter, from four to six. More information, pictures and map of the Puget Museum
