One of the best-known prints of all visitors to Ibiza<\/strong>is the majestic image Of the Cathedral<\/strong> crowning the entrance to the port. Visible from practically any point of the town, the temple is within the walled area and can be accessed from the street of the Universitat or by the Main Street. The History of this beautiful building as we know it today begins in 1235, after the conquest of the Christian troops, the Church of Santa Maria is built on the mosque of Yebisah in honor of Santa Mar\u00eda la Mayor or Our Lady of the Snows , being the closest patron in the Saints to the date of the conquest. <\/div><\/div>\n

During The 14TH century, it was extended with the construction of the belfry and the chapels of San Jaume, Sant Miquel, Santa Tecla and Sant Antoni, Sant Joan and San Pedro and San Pablo. The rest of the chapels correspond to the 16TH century, as well as the main entrance door. Already in 1817, it becomes the Cathedral Of Ibiza<\/strong>, Taking Possession Felipe Gonzalez Abarca, although the first Bishop Was Manuel Abad and sierra in 1782, but the state of ruin of the church did not allow to consecrate it until a century later. The main entrance to the building is located in the square. We will be Able to observe an old hourglass in the belfry and an image of the Virgin on the access door. In the upper part are visible the walls that divide the main nave into chapels. Most visitors stay with this view of the building, however, we recommend that you surround the belfry, first by the views you will find, and second because they can see perfectly the stained glass windows that give light to the altar and give a very different picture of the temple. A perfect place to see this area is just outside the Archeological Museum. The interior of the building may cost you something more to see, because even though your official schedule of visits begins at Ten in the morning, the doors do not open a few days and others either. We recommend You to make your visit on Sundays. <\/div><\/div>\n
