Talking about Playa d’en Bossa means talking about one of the best-known places in Ibiza. It isn’t just one of the longest beaches on the island: a whole town has grown up around it, and it works like a real holiday resort.

Those of us who know the area well have watched its services change over the years, increasingly aimed at a more demanding crowd.

If you take a good walk along the shoreline, you’ll see that the beach is fairly straight and that the wind often blows hard. The water is fairly calm and the slope is gentle: the waves break a few metres from the shore and rip currents are very rare. It’s a good place for swimming and for sailing sports. If you’d rather go snorkelling, head to the end of the beach, where the rocks begin.

The seabed is sandy, with seaweed beyond the swimming area that darkens the water in some stretches; you can easily spot it from the shore. The huge range of services gives it a character of its own: you’ll go from stretches full of families looking for a dip to areas with a touch of glamour.

The restaurants and beach bars are another draw: even locals come here for a drink a few metres from the water. Some of the best beach clubs on the island are here.

About Playa d’en Bossa

From the Ibiza Town end to the Sal Rossa tower, some 2.7 kilometres of fine sand are home to every kind of accommodation, luxury residential areas and large upmarket resorts. The beach is split between two very different municipalities, Ibiza and Sant Josep, and you can feel that divide in the built-up areas that run parallel to the coast.

If you start at the Figueretas end, you’ll find good-quality hotels surrounded by low, seaside-style houses. These were the last outlying neighbourhoods of Ibiza Town and today they are residential areas living side by side with the tourist offer, with a few nightspots that locals go to as well. Further on you enter the municipality of Sant Josep, with shops and bars that feel very international, and the liveliest part of the beach begins, with beach bars, several hotel complexes and some of the best-known clubs on the island. The walk ends with top-class hotel complexes and a more family-friendly atmosphere until you reach Sal Rossa.
